NCT’s Taeil Admits to Group Sexual Assault, Sentenced to 3 Years and 6 Months

On July 10, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court held a sentencing hearing for Taeil and two others charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (special quasi-rape).
The court sentenced Taeil and the two others to 3 years and 6 months in prison. Additionally, they were ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program, have their personal information disclosed, and face a 5-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, youth, or persons with disabilities.
The court stated, “Due to the imposition of a prison sentence in the first trial and concerns about flight risk, an arrest warrant will be issued.”
The incident occurred on June 13, 2023, around 4 AM, at Mr. Lee’s residence in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu. The defendants allegedly assaulted a Chinese national tourist, referred to as “A”, who was reportedly incapacitated due to alcohol.
During the June 18 trial, prosecutors emphasized the gravity of the crime and the defendants’ attempts to evade consequences. They revealed that the trio deliberately discussed putting the victim in a taxi bound for a location different from the crime scene, allegedly to confuse any potential investigation.

Although a settlement was reached with the victim, the prosecution argued that the case’s seriousness warranted a firm sentence. “The defendants show no sincere remorse. Despite the agreement, we request a 7-year prison term for each,” the prosecutor stated.
Taeil’s legal team pleaded for leniency, citing his completion of sexual violence prevention courses and therapy. “He is deeply remorseful and promises to never repeat such actions,” the defense argued. Taeil, in his final statement, said, “To those I disappointed, I am truly sorry. If given another chance, I will live my life doing good.”
Taeil debuted in 2016 with NCT U and later became a member of NCT 127. Following the revelations, SM Entertainment swiftly removed him from the group and terminated his exclusive contract in October 2024.
